The Business Assistance Grant
The Ardmore Initiative offers Business Assistance Grants of up to $25,000, to assist local businesses and commercial property owners, while creating new jobs for low-moderate income persons. These grants are made available from federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds through Lower Merion Township, and are available to property or business owners for retail or restaurant businesses located within the Ardmore Initiative Business District Authority’s assessment boundaries. These businesses can either be startup businesses or business expansions within this area. Working capital grants can be used for operating expenses, computer and equipment purchases, software, employee training, website development and marketing/advertising expenses, fixturing, and other tenant fit-out costs. Rehabilitation grants can also be used for commercial interior rehabilitation for code corrections and improvements, improvements required for new businesses, or a change of use to meet building and/or fire code requirements.

The Interest Free Loan Program
Lower Merion Township, in partnership with financial institutions within the Township, has allocated CDBG funds for the purpose of assisting local business property owners in correcting code conditions and improving the appearance of their buildings. Funds are available for property owners and leaseholders in the Township commercial districts to undertake improvements to building facades and major systems, including the roof, electric, and heating systems. Incidental costs to upgrade handicap accessibility and sidewalk improvements may also be eligible. CDBG funds can be used to underwrite the interest portion of the commercial loan. In short, this creates a loan product for the applicant that is interest-free.

The Facade Grant
The Ardmore Initiative, with funds awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development, offers 50/50 matching façade improvement grants of up to $5,000 to commercial property or business owners located within the Ardmore Initiative Business District Authority’s assessment boundaries. These funds may be used for a variety of improvements to a building façade, including signage, awnings, lighting, painting, etc.
